The GFMD Summit and the close of the 2020 UAE Chairmanship

On January 26, 2021, the 13th GFMD Summit came to an end. Over 90 local government representatives joined national governments, civil society and the private sector in a virtual Summit to discuss migration governance.

This year’s GFMD marked its most inclusive Summit ever — offering local and national governments a true opportunity to come together in common dialogue and consider concrete partnerships that make the promise of inclusive COVID-19 response and recovery for all a reality.

The end of the Summit also marked the end of the UAE GFMD Chairmanship. France has been confirmed to take over the Chairmanship as of mid-2022. In the interim, the GFMD Troika will lead the GFMD activities.
